EMDR Therapy: Find Relief, Healing, and Freedom
Sometimes painful memories, negative beliefs or old experiences continue to feel emotionally present no matter how much you understand them intellectually. You may know you are safe, capable or worthy—and still find yourself reacting as though the old experience is happening again.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured therapeutic approach that can help people process distressing experiences and memories that continue to affect how they feel, think and respond in the present.
EMDR may help you
- Reduce the intensity of painful memories and triggers
- Reconnect with your sense of safety and control
- Strengthen self-worth and self-trust
- Process negative beliefs connected to earlier experiences
- Move forward with greater clarity, confidence and calm
What happens in EMDR?
Treatment begins with understanding your history, current concerns, triggers, strengths, coping resources and goals. When appropriate, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation such as guided eye movements while working with specific memories, emotions, beliefs or sensations.
The goal is not to erase or forget what happened. The goal is to reduce the emotional intensity connected to the experience so the past no longer has the same power over how you feel and respond today.
